Magic Johnson Surprises School Owners at May Summit

Paul Mitchell school owners and directors attending their biannual owner's summit meeting received a huge surprise when Earvin "Magic" Johnson walked through the door. The legendary basketball player, entrepreneur, and LA Dodgers owner dropped in to personally thank the schools for their $150,000 donation to the Magic Johnson Foundation. To date, the Paul Mitchell Schools FUNraising campaign has raised over $11.2 million and donated $280,000 to the Magic Johnson Foundation.

Paul Mitchell Summit 2013

All of the Directors from every Paul Mitchell School gather once a year for the annual three day Summit to discuss the future of the school and new changes that are on the way! We had a very special guest, Magic Johnson! Magic Johnson surprised everyone at Summit as a thanks for raising $150,000 for his charity, the Magic Foundation.

Future Professionals and staff from the 101 Paul Mitchell Schools raised over $2.6 million for 11 charities in their 2013 FUNraising campaign. A celebration Gala took place May 5, 2013, at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, CA, hosted by Dean and Cofounder Winn Claybaugh and deaf comedian / motivational speaker Kathy Buckley, with special guests Betty White, Fran Drescher, John Schneider, and Megyn Price, and entertainment by Sara Evans and Tichina Arnold.

Miami Springs High School Teacher Appreciation Day!

May 10th, 2013 Our Future Professionals went to do makeovers and hair for teachers at Miami Springs High School for their Teacher Appreciation Day! Along with Design Team leader Ive Diaz-Gonzalez, our Future Professionals brought a smile to their faces and did an amazing job!

"Pop Some Tags": University of Miami PRSSA Fashion Show 2013

Three of our Future Professionals got to style both girls and guys for "Pop Some Tags", the annual fashion show at UM. Our fabulous Design Team, lead by Ive Diaz-Gonzalez, did the hair of 15 models. The fashion show featured clothes from Plato's Closet: It was meant to teach college students how to dress fabulously on a budget!

DESIGN TEAM: Fashion in the Gardens Event

We brought five Future Professionals to do hair and makeup for the models at a fashion event in the botanical gardens of Pinecrest, Florida. Some of the attendees included the Mayor of Pinecrest, and news anchor of Miami's channel 4. We, as a school and as students, are always excited to share our talents with our city. It was an great learning experience and overall successful day for hair and makeup!

Academy Pro Hair Extensions Class

Check out the certification class that we offer here at Paul Mitchell Miami! This class is offered as an addition to the Cosmetology program. They are learning the fusion, beading, and tape techniques of applying hair extensions, taught by Academy Pro!

Las Vegas Caper 2013

Paul Mitchell Schools' 2013 Caper featured a superstar lineup including Bravo TV's Tabatha Coffey, comedian and inspirational speaker Kathy Buckley, and Sundance Channel's Push Girls, along with stage presentations by renowned artists and educators in and outside the Paul Mitchell galaxy. Special guests included 5-time NAHA winner Vivienne Mackinder in a main-stage hair show hosted by Paul Mitchell Chairman and CEO John Paul DeJoria, Paul Mitchell Co-owner Angus Mitchell, Paul Mitchell Schools Dean and Cofounder Winn Claybaugh, and Paul Mitchell Global Artistic Director and 7-time Stylists Choice Awards Platform Artist of the Year Robert Cromeans. Roughly 3,000 Future Professionals earned their way to the 2-day Las Vegas educational extravaganza, held January 22-23, 2013.

Ann Bowler Day 2012

When Paul Mitchell Schools' Dean and Cofounder Winn Claybaugh lost his good friend Ann Bowler in 2010, he wanted to do something to honor her memory. "During our time together, every time I asked Ann if there was anything I could do for her, her only response was, 'Just be my friend.'" Inspired by that simple request, Winn called upon the student-run Be Nice (Or Else!) Teams at Paul Mitchell Schools to hold annual "Ann Bowler Days." Each December, in Ann's honor, students and staff members visit nursing homes and senior centers across America, singing Christmas carols, bearing small gifts, offering mini manicures and hairdos, and providing love and companionship to their new friends.

Last week, our Be Nice (or Else!) Team went to a local nursing home to pay tribute to Ann Bowler and keep Winn Claybaugh's "give back" attitude alive. Giving back is important throughout the year, but the holidays are a particularly special time because some of these men and women might be feeling alone or live away from their families. We are very proud of our BNOE team for getting out there and lifting spirits in memory of Miss Bowler!

National Breast Cancer Awareness Month 2012

In support of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Paul Mitchell Schools joined John Paul Mitchell Systems to raise money and awareness about this important cause. At Paul Mitchell Schools across America, Future Professionals and staff members spent the month of October 2012 participating in Making Strides walks, holding bake sales and cut-a-thons, and selling pink ribbons and pink hair extensions to raise over $74,320 for the American Cancer Society.

Free Hugs Day 2012

On September 18, 2012, an army of 16,000 future beauty professionals took to the streets throughout the continental United States and Hawaii for our fourth annual Paul Mitchell Schools Free Hugs Day. "Our Free Hugs campaign is just one of the many ways our future beauty professionals show their passion and compassion in their local communities," said Paul Mitchell Schools Dean and Cofounder Winn Claybaugh. "As members of the beauty industry, we're in the business of helping people look beautiful. More important, it's part of our 'be nice' culture to help people FEEL beautiful." Dressed in their signature black outfits, carrying handmade "Free Hugs" signs, and naturally sporting fabulous styles, students and staff from the network's 100 schools put down their combs and marched out the door, heading for plazas, parks, and other popular spots to offer hugs and make people's day.

In honor of National Cancer Survivors Day, The American Cancer Society were welcomed to Hi-Tech, A Paul Mitchell School as Guest Artist. We are so grateful they attended and spoke about cancer awareness with the Future Professionals! How amazing is that!?!

Miami Metropolitan Internationational Fashion Week Debut during Memorial Day Weekend!

The inaugural Miami Metropolitan International Fashion Week debuted May 24, showcasing 15 designers collections over the three-day event. The new version kicked off at a new home, LMNT Contemporary Art Space, with a cocktail reception sponsored by Bodegas 1492 Rum. About 700 guests attended the event, which featured daywear, eveningwear, and swimwear.

2012 Jose Cuervo Volleyball Series Cut-a-thon

This year the Jose Cuervo Volleyball Series was launched at Ft. Lauderdale, Fl during Memorial Day Weekend! Our Future Professionals attended the cut-a-thon and had an amazing time under the hot Florida sun!

Mother's Day Event at Miami Children's Hospital on May 10th, 2012

Our Be Nice or Else Team and Design Team attended a very special Mother's Day Event at Miami Children's Hospital on Thursday, May 10th, 2012. For our Future Professionals to have participated in the daily activities of the children who are living with cancer was truly life changing and inspirational. These children are truly full of life and we are grateful to have been able to give back to the parents of these wonderful children. THESE parents are truly amazing, and we admire their strength and value all they do. We wish everyone a very happy Mother's Day! :)

Stylist Choice Awards 2011

Ann Bowler Day, December 2010

After his 92-year-old friend Ann Bowler passed away in December, Paul Mitchell Schools Dean and Cofounder called on his staff and Future Professionals to find and visit a local nursing home, retirement home, or assisted living center and create some magic by bringing gifts (if appropriate), singing carols, reaching out to these adorable individuals. He also reminded them to sincerely thank the nurses, doctors, and caregivers who look after these beautiful people. "I realize that this time of the year is very busy for all of you," Winn said. "Actually, I can't think of a better time of year because many elderly people feel especially alone during the holidays. Mostly you'll be there providing love, a hug, and companionship. Each and every time I asked Ann if there was anything I could do for her, her one and only response was, 'Just be my friend.'"

Next Top Photo Stylist 2010

Three talented Future Professionals from the nationwide network of Paul Mitchell Schools have been named "Next Top Photo Stylist" by Paul Mitchell Editorial Director Lucie Doughty and a panel of distinguished judges. Elizabeth Ankenman from Paul Mitchell The School - St. George, Erik McEwen from Paul Mitchell The School - Sherman Oaks, and Heather Burnworth of Paul Mitchell The School - Salt Lake City were named winners in the recent competition, which drew over 130 entries. Elizabeth, Erik, and Heather will travel to Los Angeles in January for a two-day photo shoot with Lucie Doughty, where each winner will shoot one model with three separate style looks.

Haiti Fundraising

In immediate response to Haiti's devastating earthquake, Paul Mitchell Schools Dean and Cofounder Winn Claybaugh called for a nationwide fundraising day. "Our goal is $1,000 per school, times our 100 schools, for a total of $100,000," Winn said. The schools rose to the challenge and raised over $83,500 within two weeks. A personal donation from John Paul DeJoria, chairman and cofounder of John Paul Mitchell Systems, brought the total to $100,000. Future Professionals broke from their signature black outfits to hold "Casual for a Cause" days, donating money to dress casually for the day. They also invited family, friends, and guests to "buy" paper bottles for Haiti relief, donated tips, and held a number of other activities, from bake sales to benefit concerts.

Free Hugs Day 2010

An army of 12,000 Future Professionals took to the streets on September 23, 2010, for Paul Mitchell Schools' second nationwide Free Hugs Day. Dressed in their signature black outfits, carrying handmade Free Hugs signs, and naturally sporting fabulous styles, Future Professionals from the network's 100 schools headed for plazas, parks, and other popular spots to offer hugs and make people's day. Events for day and night school students occurred simultaneously in every time zone throughout the continental U.S. and Hawaii. Paul Mitchell artists, educators, top executives, and superstars joined the Future Professionals at Free Hugs locations in their areas.

Caper 2010

For the 25th year, Paul Mitchell Future Professionals used their sales skills to earn their way to Caper, a star-studded annual educational event. Over 2,000 Paul Mitchell cosmetology and skin care Future Professionals sold $2 million in Paul Mitchell products to attend the three-day Las Vegas event, where they received hands-on classes with the Paul Mitchell and Advanced Academy Artistic Teams and educators. Skin care Future Professionals also had a day of education at the Dermal Institute.

The Design Team from Hi-Tech the School of Cosmetology attended the Sex and the City 2 movie premiere at the Regal South Beach theater on Lincoln Road in Miami Beach to style hair and makeup for the seven runway models wearing outfits similar to those seen in the movie!

Sex and the City 2 Fashion Show

Hosted by Mod Media at Nikki Beach in Miami Beach, Florida, this event included a fashion show featuring looks similar to those from the movie Sex and the City 2, in theaters on May 28. The Design Team members were eager to style hair and makeup for the Abu Dhabi-like outfits going down the runway.

Fashion Designers Expo of Florida

Our Design Team was invited to style hair and makeup for this two-day event, complete with a fashion show benefitting the Kids in Distress foundation. It took place at the Newport Beachside Resort in Sunny Isles Beach, Florida. We had an amazing time, and met a lot of very talented designers and models.

Miami Springs Senior High School Lunch Jam!

Our Design Team stopped by Miami Springs Senior High School during their lunch hour to spread some news about our prom specials, as well as share information about our school and cosmetology program. We did some upstyles for a few girls who weren't quite sure what they wanted to do with their hair for prom, and they ended up making reservations with us at our salon! It was an awesome experience to create magic with the high school juniors and seniors. :)

Design Team at the Corona Light Volleyball Tournament and Oakley Fashion Show

The Design Team from Hi-Tech the School of Cosmetology styled hair and makeup for the six runway models for Oakley's fashion show at the Corona Light Wide Open Volleyball Tournament and Beach Festival. The event took place on the beach in Ft. Lauderdale on Saturday, May 15!

Miami Sunset Senior High School Lunch Jam

Hi-Tech the School of Cosmetology brought their Design Team out to Sunset High School on May 6 to share our awesome prom specials for updos and makeup with the senior girls! We also informed them that the same coupons could be used to have their hair and makeup done for graduation! The Design Team members and Leader had an amazing time sharing stories and laughs with the high school students while we created magic and spread the word about Paul Mitchell schools and our culture! :)

Dade County Youth Fair Fashion Show

Hi-Tech the School's Design Team was asked to style hair and makeup for the high school students that participated in the fashion show at Dade County's annual Youth Fair. More than 20 students modeled handmade clothing on the runway. All of the designs were created by local high schools' fashion programs!

South Miami Senior High School Lunch Jam

In April, our Design Team was invited out to South Miami Senior High to create magic with the high school students during their lunch hour! We spread the word of our amazing Paul Mitchell culture, shared information about our wonderful cosmetology program, and passed out Prom promotional coupons to all of the junior and senior ladies who wanted discounted prices on professional hair and makeup styling for their special night!

Circus Couture Fashion Show

Hi-Tech, a Paul Mitchell Partner School, hosted an evening of fashion in the Design District on April 16, 2010. Our main goal at this event was to raise money for our annual FUNraiser!

Princess Party

Hi-Tech the School of Cosmetology and our fabulous Design Team hosted a Princess Party on Saturday, April 17 to benefit our annual fundraising efforts. We invited little princesses ages 3-7 to attend a day of fun and pampering complete with a tea party and photo shoot for only $35 per person!
